Penang Free School
Monday, April 28th, 2008This blog is specially written to my students in Penang Free School during my teaching practical in Free School. After all, it was a wonderful enriching experience. It was a bittersweet experience and everything just happened between us.
I still remember vividly my first reaction when i get to know that i got PFS to fulfil my 15 weeks of teaching practical!!! First of all, it’s a boy school and one of the top school in Penang.Time flies and God just bring it to pass. Everything right from the beginning to the very end is so fresh and so yesterday.
4 Cekal, 4 Dinamik and 2 Cekal were the classes i taught in PFS. The students were angels and demons to me at the same time! I can say that teaching them is not the most diffucult thing to do, but the last day of teaching itself was a very hard-letting go moment for me to accept.
I hate the feeling of saying farewell when i have to accept it reluctanty.By the time we are getting closer and acquaintant to each other but we have to leave each other at the same time!!!
It’s my first teaching experience and i treasure it very much. The students are dear to my heart and they always spice up my teaching life. No matter how mischievous and noisy they are, i will never ever scold them because i dont like to embarass my students instead i think i should do it another way. Scolding students is a taboo for me to educate students and i find it the most stupid and uneffective way of disciplining the students.
Bringing out the fragrance of a teacher and making a positive impact is the heart of learning and teaching. I really appreciate and treasure the interaction with my students!!!
To teach is to learn. I am not just teaching the students but I am learning from them as well. I am not the academic-driven person so what i emphasize and expect from the students is not acedemic excellent, but excel in every aspect of their life. EQ and IQ has to work together and they compliment each other in order to perform well. It is your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude. I learned much from this saying during floorball training ‘ it doesn’t matter you try and try and try and fail, but it does matter when u try and fail, and you fail to try again’. It’s very true.
I believe that the students are very unique and teachable. Every student has their own learning style and hidden potential yet to discover, either by themselves or being told. My principle in teaching is, never ever look down or discourage the students until they are hurt or demotivated. It’s the most stupid thing to do as a teacher.
To my point of view,an ideal teacher to me is to be able to interact with the students and deliver knowledge effectively at the same time. For me, a teacher should be relational and befriend with the students as well, but have to conduct it wisely. I am still learning how to achieve that.
My first teaching experience in Penang Free School did impact me a lot. It’s hard to explain the feeling by mere words.4 Cekal, 4 Dinamik and 2 Cekal did influence me significantly. They are angels in disguised to brighten up my day, at the same time, they are demons that really disturb me with their nonsense!Anyway, everything is good in God’s hand. He sees me through the seasons and at the end, i will end up praising Him for His faithfulness.Thank you Lord for giving me the best according to Your perfect timing. I thank God for all the people that cross my life journey, leaving marks in the secret place called HEART.
